Kara Twomey has been dreaming big ever since her life-changing trip to Sri Lanka where she volunteered at the Millennium Elephant Foundation (MEF) to help elephants have a better quality of life. During her short trip, she helped a 57-year-old elephant named Kandula by taking him to the river to bath him, feeding him his vitamin balls, and cleaning out his sleeping area.

She returned to Sri Lanka six months later to become a volunteer coordinator with the MEF and was amazed by how much progress was made in such a short amount of time. Next door to the MEF is a paper factory (Eco Maximus) where volunteers wheelbarrow elephant dung so they can make paper and paper products. Kara realized that nobody was selling these products in Canada, so she took it upon herself and created her company, Aliya Dung Paper!

Through Aliya Dung Paper, Kara has been able to donate money to help build wells for the elephants in the MEF, help pay for a knee surgery that Kandula desperately needs, and is now fundraising money to release Lucy, an elephant who has been in the Edmonton zoo for 40 years. Kara has also been able to travel around to different schools to give speeches about the importance of elephants, how they help the ecosystem, and why it's so important to protect them. To go along with how sustainable dung paper is, it also helps employ over 200 people in Sri Lanka while showing that elephants are amazing resources.
